Welcome to our Nursery!

This term's topic

Our topic for this half term is Family and Friends.

We will be talking about ourselves, our friends, our families, where we live and the things we like.  We will be painting pictures and naming body parts.

We have lots of activities available every day in nursery for children to explore.  These activities develop different skills and encourage children to be independent.

We wil be drawing lots of pictures and making marks on paper.

We will continue to practise writing and recognising our names and holding our pencils correctly.

Our reading area is very attractive and children will be encouraged to look at books and to talk about the pictures.  We will be listening to a variety of stories and answering lots of questions.  The children will be borrowing books from our library to bring home and we would like you to spend some time with your child, looking at and talking about the book together, and reading the book as a bedtime story. We would like you to read with your child at least three times a week.  We will therefore change library books on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  This will give you ample time to read with your children.  When your child has read their book at least three times in one week they will be able to progress to the next level of the Reading Rocket.  When they reach the top of the rocket they will be able to come to school for one day in non-uniform.  Who will make it to the top first?

Please encourage your child to take care of their book and keep it in a safe place.

This half term we will be introducing the letter sounds from the Read, Write, Inc. Phonics Scheme.

We are really looking forward to our PE sessions with Nathan every Monday.  Please send black shorts and a white T shirt in a bag and please name all items of clothing to avoid any mix up!

Baking Money for this half term will be £3.50.  Your child will have the opportunity to bake every week and we will be making exciting things such as pizza, biscuits, buns, fruit salad.

The Great British Bake Off here we come!!!

Our topic will give us lots of opportunities for counting and recognising numbers.  We will be looking at houses, counting doors and windows and looking at the numbers on doors.  We will also be talking about the different people in our family and counting how many people live in our house.  We will be using our fingers to count to 10 and singing lots of number songs and rhymes.
