Welcome to our Nursery!

This term's topic

Our topic for this half term is Light and Dark.

We will be talking about Bonfire Night, fireworks, nocturnal animals and Christmas.  We will have lots of fun using torches and exploring different lights in the Dark Den.

We will also be going out for walks to look at the Christmas lights displays at the Mill Village, visiting Batley Library, Linson Court Nursing Home and Batley Care.

We will hopefully have a visit from Oggles Hedgehog Rescue and Wise Owl Birds of Prey.

Snack Area

Every day children will have a carton of milk and a piece of fruit. We will be encouraging the children to try new things and also be talking about heathy eating.

We will be drawing lots of pictures and making marks on paper. A lot of our work will be about the story “Owl Babies”.  We will also continue to practise recognising and writing our names and holding our pencils correctly.

In Phonics this half term we will be revisiting the letter sounds from the Read, Write, Inc. Phonics Scheme and starting to blend some letters.

Please continue to read library books with your children and sign the orange book to say you have read together.  This will ensure your child moves up the Reading Rocket and hopefully reaches the top. We are getting lovely comments from some parents about the books their child has borrowed so please keep up the good work!

We will continue to change library books on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Please encourage your child to take care of their book and keep it in a safe place.

This half term we will be introducing the letter sounds from the Read, Write, Inc. Phonics Scheme.

We are really enjoying our PE sessions with Nathan every Monday and we are trying very hard to get undressed and dressed by ourselves. Please send black shorts and a white T shirt in a bag and please name all items of clothing to avoid any mix up!

Baking Money for this half term will be £4.00.  Your child will have the opportunity to bake every week and we will be making exciting things such as parkin, flapjack, hedgehog bread, star biscuits and hot chocolate.

The Great British Bake Off here we come again!!

.Once again we will be doing lots of counting and number recognition.  We will be counting lights, hedgehogs, owls, torches and singing lots of number rhymes.  We will be thinking about day and night, using the language of time and sequencing events.  We will also be ordering sizes.
