Sports Premium

During the academic year 2015/16 the Government gave every Primary School funding to develop Physical Education and competitive sport. Spring Grove School received £9514. In our school we used this funding by working with the North Kirklees Sports Partnership to:

  • Increase the amount of competition sport in which our children participate
  • Make links to other community sports providers
  • Develop additional clubs and activities for children, outside the curriculum
  • Encourage our children to improve their leadership skills through sport
  • Give extra support in PE to our most talented children and include those with special needs in sport

Monies are used to bring PE and sports specialist teachers and coaches into work alongside class teachers and support staff in lessons. In this way, the children werre able to gain new skills and experiences and teachers and support staff were able to gain new techniques and knowledge which aided them in teaching sport and PE.

Some of the money was used to buy coaches for after school clubs. The aim of this was to increase participation in sport and competition and broaden the children’s awareness and experience of different sports and promote a healthier lifestyle. Also we have used some of the money to purchase new resources so the children have a wide variety of equipment to enhance their learning. A small amount of the funding was used to transport children and staff to competitions and sporting events.

The long term aim is higher quality lessons and improved learning for all children. The children will make more progress through the school and therefore become more competent and confident in all aspects of Sport and the P.E. curriculum.
