Welcome to Class 5

In Literacy, we will be looking at the features of a diary entry, before writing our own based on a short animation. We will develop our empathy skills and include a variety of features in our writing such as: rhetorical questions, relative clauses and modal verbs. As always, we will work hard to meet our Success Criteria and personal targets.

This half-term, we will be developing our Coding skills. We will learn how to develop our own games in Scratch and develop a variety of skills including debugging (correcting mistakes) and sequencing.

In Maths, we will be beginning a new topic on geometry. We will learn how to identify different types of angles, as well as calculating missing angles. We will use a protractor to measure and draw angles, too. It’s really important that we work accurately and carefully.

If you have any questions about what your child is learning and the methods they are being taught, please do not hesitate to contact Miss Khan (class teacher).

Please ensure your child learns their weekly spellings, ready to be tested on a Friday. Weekly Literacy and Maths homework will also be given. Each half-term, a special project will be given to children – we look forward to seeing their creations!

We continue to have specialist Sports coaches delivering one of our PE lessons! We will continue to play a variety of team games and take part in orienteering challenges.

It is really important that your child brings the correct PE kit every week.

Our new Science topic will be ‘Changes to Old Age’; we will explore changes to the human body and apply scientific thinking. We will also get the opportunity to visit the fantastic art work we created as part of the ‘Change Project’.

We are really excited to be celebrating Spanish Day in July! We will learn all about the geography of Spain, as well as take part in lots of other exciting activities related to Spain. We can’t wait – more details to follow!
