Welcome to Class 5

In Literacy, we will be continuing our Victorians topic and reading ‘Street Child’, a novel set in Victorian London. The story is about a young boy, Jim, who is sent to the workhouse but quickly escapes, choosing a hard life on the streets of the city over the confines of the workhouse walls. We will be following Jim on his adventure and producing some fantastic writing, such as diary entries. Interestingly, the story is based on the boy whose plight inspired Dr Barnardo to found his famous children's homes.

In Maths, we will be focusing on the written methods for multiplication and division, as well as solving problems. We will also be continuing to develop our mental maths skills; please keep practising at home!

We will be continuing our Victorian topic and look forward to an exciting trip to the National Coal Mining Museum, where we will meet a miner and take part in an underground tour! Our experience will help us understand how mining has changed over time and its impact on Britain.

In PE, we will continue to have lessons delivered by a specialist PE coach. We will be playing team games, including football, as well as having the opportunity to take part in competitions.

We received some fantastic projects last half-term –well done! We look forward to seeing this half-term’s creations! Weekly Maths, Literacy and spellings will also be given. Please ensure your child learns their spellings ready for their test on Friday.
