Computing
At Park Road, we are aware of the increasingly important role that technology plays in people’s lives. At the end of Key Stage 2, our pupils will be digitally literate and ready to fully exploit the opportunities that current and future technologies offer them.
In the 2014 Computing curriculum, there is a focus on computational thinking and creativity:
The core of computing is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Building on this knowledge and understanding, pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content. Computing also ensures that pupils become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology – at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.
There are three aspects to our Computing curriculum:
1) Computer Science
· Pupils can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation.
· Pupils can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems.
2) Information Technology
· Pupils can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems.
3) Digital Literacy
· Pupils are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.
Alongside this, we teach children how to stay safe online and our curriculum is equipped to support them with this. We have created a progression of skills as part of our long term Computing plan, which we aspire all pupils to be able to master before moving on to secondary school. Our aim is to develop curious, creative and courageous leaners, who are ready for success in a technology driven world.
