On behalf of all colleagues at Park Road Junior Infant and Nursery School, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and understanding at this most testing of times for the country at large.

Over the weeks ahead, we will be using Piota to communicate with you all, providing updates on how the school is responding to this national crisis. As we have reminded all of our pupils in recent days, their learning will continue uninterrupted during this period of school closure, as we harness the power of educational technology to maintain teacher-pupil contact, provide access to resources/activities to keep them stimulated. All children have access to dB Primary, however, should they have any issues please do not hesitate to email me.

Please do be aware that there will be bumps along the road: yesterday morning, for example, the level of traffic online created some significant delays for pupils up and down the country in their accessing of learning materials, and dB Primary’s technical team are working incredibly hard to rectify this situation. This appeared to be an intermittent problem yesterday, so please keep trying.

For your information, at the end of the day school will be closed to all students. We have been in touch with the parents of vulnerable children following the government’s announcement yesterday evening. They are now keeping their children at home, as are the parents who have been identified as Key Workers. When we are in a position to start reopening the school to these pupils and then to all pupils, I will let you know.

We will not be available to provide paper copies of the work posted on line from this point as we will not be in, however I would be grateful if you would do what you can. Please could I ask you all to be conscious of internet safety. This is always important, but during a period of increased internet activity please keep a close eye on the sites your child is accessing, who they are speaking to and what is being said. Let us make sure our children are safe!

We are in the process of purchasing vouchers for Tesco for the parents whose children are entitled to free school meals. These will be sent to my home address so that I can ensure they are posted out. Please be assured that when I receive these, I will post them out first class that day.

I am conscious that the school has bombarded our parents with letters, information and updates in recent days and hope that you will appreciate why events left us with no option but to take this approach. Thank you for your continued patience at this time of uncertainty.
